VICTORY AT ALL-ENGLAND PUMPS UP TINE FOR UBER CUP FINALS

2010-04-17

KUALA LUMPUR (April 17, 2010) - Two time All-England women's singles champion Tine Rasmussen, has been Denmark's mainstay in her country's Uber Cup team since 2000.

The lanky Dane regained her women's singles crown in the recent Yonex All England badminton championships when she beat defending champion and top seed Wang Yihan 21-14, 18-21, 21-19 in the final.

Rasmussen, who was unseeded this year after laying off from competitive badminton due to injury, is currently playing in the Europen Championships in Manchester.

"It is not going to be any easy against the mighty Chinese players in the Uber Cup Finals. They have several players who are top badminton players in the world, unlike others who depend on one or two players," said Rasmussen.

"But do not rule out the other countries, including Denmark. It is a team event and anything can happen. I feel confident facing the Chinese girls. They can be beaten and it has been done before so nothing is guaranteed."

Denmark are in Group B with Indonesia and Australia.

Top seeds and defending champions China are in Group A with hosts Malaysia and the United States.

Japan, Russia and Germany are drawn in Group C while South Korea and South Africa make up Group D.
